Too many links, too little time

The "Frank & Ernest" strip from Tuesday:

Do most Americans shampoo too often?, and why, and how often should we?

"The Science of Spring", because tomorrow is the Equinox! (My crocuses are starting to fade, and the forsythia are starting to bloom. Soon it will be time to rev up the lawnmower.)

Barack Obama's NCAA Men's Tournament bracket. I like the way he writes "Pitt", with one line crossing both T's, so it looks like "Pi" followed by a pi. (He didn't do this on March 14, though, did he?) I don't like how he crossed it out and replaced it with UNC, though. Go Panthers!

And speaking of Pittsburgh, some links about the city:
"What always strikes me is where to put Pittsburgh geographically. Although we are only a short distance from the Atlantic, we are not an East Coast city, yet we are too East Coast to be Mid-west, but too Mid-west to be East coast We have High Tech like Silicon Valley, but definitely not West Coast. We’re not South nor West. So I propose that Pittsburgh should be it’s own geographic region, with our own unique blend of, frankly, the best of what the U.S. has to offer."
"The Road to the Economic Super Bowl" The Steelers as a metaphor for the region. A theme also discussed at
"Can Pittsburgh Save Detroit" Mike Madison of Pittsblog missed his chance to be on CNN last night (preempted by the AIG scandal and Natasha Richardson's death), so he says on his blog what he wanted to tell Anderson Cooper.

And, because all work and no play make librarians boring (who, us?)
free online (requires Flash) games, some of which are about libraries and librarians!

No-poo, washing your hair once a week, whatever, is great for the people it works for, but I get really irritated when it's touted as the cure for what ails you. I tried cutting back on the hair washing and it destroyed my hair and gave me a horribly flaky scalp as well as the rashes I expected from allergens staying on my skin.

Sorry, this is kind of a hot button for me. :)

Yeah, it's probably not a "one size fits all" sort of thing. It was kind of thought-provoking though, especially the parts about shampoo ads.

Once a month, which the article says used to be standard -- back in the day when most women had very long hair (and no dryers) -- is *way* too long between washings. No wonder they pinned their hair up. I tend to be a once-a-week person myself, and quit using conditioners because they seemed to make me itchy.
